The Science Behind NaoLyte

Hydration is not just about water. It’s about minerals, ratios, sources, and bioavailability.

Built From First Principles

NaoLyte was built from first principles: prioritising mineral integrity, physiological relevance, and purity of source. Every component exists for a reason - and nothing is added simply to improve appearance or shelf behaviour.

THE SCIENCE OF ELECTROLYTES & ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE

Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals essential for:

Fluid balance and blood volume
Muscle contraction and relaxation
Nerve impulse transmission
Cellular energy and signalling

During exercise, electrolytes are lost through sweat — most notably sodium, but also potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Research consistently shows that replacing water alone does not adequately restore hydration status or performance capacity when electrolyte losses are significant.

Electrolyte-containing solutions improve fluid retention, maintain plasma volume, and support sustained physical output during prolonged or intense exercise.

Ingredient Philosophy

Every ingredient in NaoLyte was selected using three criteria:

Physiological relevance

Proven role in human performance.

Purity of source

Minimal processing and low contamination risk.

Functional superiority

Chosen over cheaper, less effective alternatives.

NaoLyte contains:

No anti-caking agents
No sugar
No fillers or bulking agents
What remains is a formulation designed to perform - not to cut costs.
01

LAKE DEBORAH PURE LAKE SALT

The foundation of NaoLyte.

Lake Deborah Pure Lake Salt is sourced from a remote, ancient salt lake in Western Australia, isolated from modern industrial and agricultural contamination.

Unlike refined table salt, which is heavily processed and chemically purified, this salt forms naturally over time. The result is an exceptionally clean sodium source with a naturally balanced mineral profile.

Why sodium matters:

Sodium is the primary electrolyte lost in sweat, with reported concentrations typically ranging from 500–1,500 mg per litre, depending on individual sweat rate and environmental conditions.

Adequate sodium intake:

Supports fluid absorption
Maintains blood volume
Helps reduce performance decline during prolonged exercise
Key references: Shirreffs & Maughan (1997); Sawka et al. (2007)
02

Potassium Citrate

Potassium plays a critical role in intracellular hydration, muscle contraction, and nerve signalling. While sodium dominates sweat losses, potassium works alongside sodium to regulate fluid movement across cell membranes.

Potassium citrate was selected for its:

High bioavailability
Excellent solubility
Gentle digestive profile
Key references: Institute of Medicine (2005); Maughan et al. (2018)
03

Magnesium Chloride

Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including those governing energy metabolism, neuromuscular control, and protein synthesis.

Magnesium losses through sweat are lower than sodium but still measurable, particularly during prolonged exercise or heat exposure.

Magnesium chloride was chosen because it offers:

High solubility
Superior absorption compared to oxide forms
Reliable elemental availability
Key references: Nielsen & Lukaski (2006); Gröber et al. (2015)
04

Calcium Carbonate

Calcium plays a central role in muscle contraction, nerve transmission, and cellular signalling.
Even small fluctuations can influence neuromuscular efficiency.

While calcium losses through sweat are modest and highly variable, its inclusion supports overall mineral balance — particularly for athletes with low dietary intake.

Calcium carbonate allows:

Stable, controlled dosing
High elemental calcium concentration
Long-term formulation stability
Key references: Institute of Medicine (2011); Shirreffs (2001)
05

Heavy Metals & Purity Standards

Mineral sourcing carries inherent risk of contamination. For this reason, NaoLyte is laboratory tested to ensure heavy metals remain ultra-low to the point where they are untraceable, well below regulatory thresholds and typical industry levels.

This includes testing for contaminants commonly associated with mineral-based ingredients.

Why this matters:

Electrolytes are often consumed daily
Exposure is cumulative
Purity supports long-term confidence and safety

Purity is not optional. It’s foundational.
